“School Spirit”
 After school programming: Beginning in September 2008. Survey now to find out needs.
• Program partnership with community centre - conversations to begin to now to determine possibilities for Sept.2008
• Parent volunteers
• School council to supplement costs of after school programs, police checks - done
• Diversity of activities to suit children; for example, knitting clubs, homework club – need consistency in offering these programs – in progress currently
• Language programs; evening French language conversation circles

 In-school Programming
Greater integration of sports & activities into school day – in progress currently
• Intramural teams, chess clubs, poetry clubs
• Phys ed equipment – school uniforms
• Partner with other schools in the community to offer programming, share space and expertise, build relationships: involve staff volunteers, permission forms, possibly other boards (TCDSB)
• Volunteers to bring students as spectators to sporting events
• Hopscotch, four square games on pavement – different colours to avoid confusion with track lines
• Children’s playground / yard improvements – outdoor classroom behind gym

 Broader Community – happening now, 2007-2008
• Community activity fair – fall/winter; spring/summer
• Community equipment swap

“Arts & Culture”
 Culture – parent involvement could be improved; ideas for 2008-2009 school year
• Set up courses, seminars for cultural sensitivities
• Cultural presentations by students and parents – provide interpreters
• International Pot Luck Night – Meal, flags, festivals, dress, information

 Arts – in progress currently
• Extracurricular arts, drama, improv programs - self-directed learning where kids have opportunity to take on leadership
• Hooking into artists in the community – bringing them into the school
• Connections with cultural /community relevance ie. Lunar New Year, Black History Month
• Music , book club, writing club

 Ensure that EB provides a welcoming environment to a diverse community
 Projects that instil a sense of connectedness to local schools and the different communities in our city

Eco-school initiative
Started 2007-2008, build in 2008-2009 and beyond for longer term
Currently an Eco-Team setting priorities as well as a Parent Team in-progress

• Helping kids see their role as Canadians, understand about power and responsibility as citizens to do their part for the environment
• Environmental Stewardship connects to global citizenship – care for the planet and it’s citizens
• Energy conservation / energy generation – schools must be involved in saving energy and even producing energy board-wide
• Gardening program – get kids digging in the dirt, learning “life systems curriculum hands on

“Parent & Community Involvement”
Starting now – March 2008; Welcoming seniors (7&8) kids and families
 Establish a welcoming environment
• For parents, students and newcomers entering the school

 Classroom Parent Reps
• Volunteers within school and liason to administration and parent council – in progress
• Organize a cadre of parent volunteers who can be available on a consistent basis; for homework clubs, after school program support, teacher support, facilitate parent involvement in school events – recruiting in progress

 Parent Resource Centre
• With assistance and coordination of library staff determine times – in progress

 Healthy Community Group
